About

Mike Lavin is a New York City based director and producer who has dedicated his life to comedy.

He started out taking comedians’ first headshots. Somewhere along the way, that turned into directing Netflix specials, documentaries, films, and podcasts. Following comedy from tiny clubs to theaters to sold out arenas.

Lavin is interested in what happens onstage, but maybe even more in everything around it. The people, the places, the strange rituals, long drives, bad meals, existential depression and the occasional moments of brilliance that make up a life in comedy.

His work moves between specials, documentaries, films, series, and whatever else gives him a good reason to point a camera at something. He’s less interested in polishing the edges than in finding the thing that feels real. The moments before the lights come up, after the crowd goes home, and everywhere in between.

He is the founder of 3 Nuts Studios in Manhattan, where he continues to make films about funny people and the strange world they inhabit.
